Ingredients

  • 1 bag (12 oz) cranberries fresh, picked over
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.5 cup orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest finely grated

Method

  1. Combine the cranberries, sugar, water, orange juice, and orange zest in a medium saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 12 minutes, until most of the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat.
  5. Let the sauce cool for at least 30 minutes; it will thicken more as it cools.

Notes

For the best texture, let the sauce cool completely so it can thicken. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 10 days; freeze for up to 3 months. No dietary swap is needed for this naturally dairy-free sauce.
